In David Steinberg’s eight years in office as Hyde Park Town Justice from 2004 to present, he has earned the respect of police, prosecutors, probation officers, lawyers and litigants for his work ethic, demeanor, fairness and commitment to justice. He has focused on youth crime and held a special DWI calendar to prioritize such cases.

Judge Steinberg was the recipient of the 2009 Dutchess County Magistrates Association’s “Magistrate of the Year” award. In nominating Judge Steinberg, he was lauded as “truly a judge’s judge. . . . a class act who brings luster to the reputation of all judges throughout Dutchess County.”  He has also been recognized with Distinguished Service Awards in the field of criminal law from state bar associations.

Widely admired by his peers for his legal scholarship, Judge Steinberg has authored six judicial opinions that have been published by the New York State's Legal Reporter.

Judge Steinberg is a frequent lecturer to other judges and currently is a member of the Statewide Judicial Ethics Faculty to teach other judges.
